More about Doge:
DOGE’s humble origins belong to a niche meme culture (fair warning, if you pronounce meme as “Me-Me”, you may want to sit this article out). In 2013, software engineers Billy Marcus and Jackson Palmer created and named the coin in ode to a popular Shiba Inu meme. Dogecoin pokes fun at crypto, and since imitation is the highest form of flattery, doge may be the most facetious (and successful) flirt in the crypto universe.
Built on Bitcoin’s source code, DOGE is a decentralized peer-to-peer token that people can use to send each other money. It stands as a testament to the basic principles of supply and demand, but innovatively different from centralized fiat currencies. It’s transparent, has a fixed issuance, can’t experience inflation, and is a massive force behind the adoption of cryptocurrency in the status quo (much wow).
DOGE was most popularly used to tip people on the internet who are sharing or producing quality content, kind of like a “like” button with a bit more gusto. Since then, it has garnered a dedicated fan and investor base online along with influential figureheads like Elon Musk, the internet’s favorite robo-billionaire.
If you think about it, Dogecoin is kind of like a Rothko: you may see it as sublimely creative and moving or you might be confused as to why tri colored rectangles are selling for millions of dollars and are hung in the MET. But art imitates life, and DOGE seeks to mimic money systems in their most fundamental and basic nature. Because hey, if you can’t beat em, join em!
